History

Sagacity Corporate Services (Sagacity) was formed by Mr Barry du Toit (CA (SA)), a senior business rescue practitioner after he and another attended a training course that was presented by Dr Karl Gribnitz of G&A Compass Publishing and Training in 2016. The purpose of Sagacity was to create an umbrella organisation that would promote the services of a group of chartered accountants who are focused on business rescue and its economic aspects. These practitioners have a strong ethics base and are committed to continuous development and training while delivering successful business rescue projects. Mr Barry Urban (CA (SA), a senior practitioner, joined Sagacity in 2019. In 2021, the senior practitioners Mr Karun Naidoo (CA (SA) and his partner Mr Moss Ramathe (CA (SA)) acquired 66% of the shareholding in Sagacity and became apart of the team. The newest members of the team are Mr Phillip Coetzer (attorney), registered as a senior practitioner, and Mr Asif Shaik Mohamed (CA (SA)), a junior practitioner who joined in 2023.

Sagacity has entered into an exclusive service-level agreement with G&A Compass to provide business plans, notices and other services required during business rescue proceedings. This model allows practitioners acting in their official capacity to have access to an experienced team of support staff to assist them during the business rescue proceedings. Costs are minimised as these services are used only when and as required. As of January 2024, Sagacity represents 5% of all senior practitioners registered with CIPC who are currently managing 9% of all active business rescues in South Africa.

The members of Sagacity view business rescue as an involved and complicated process that requires a tremendous focus on detail and a wide knowledge base. By working together as a group, they believe in the concept of collective genius that is applied to the benefit of all.
